If you have a notebook computer, you can take it to an area that has a WiFi hotspot, like Starbucks, and access the internet. Notebook computers have the cards built in. The current standards for cards are b, g, and draft n. The cards built into present notebook computers are the 801.11b/g network cards. If you have a desktop computer, you need a router and a card. Cards and routers are available in b/g or b/g/draft n. Almost anything purchased now will be at least a g or capable of 54Mbits/sec. A draft n system is presently capable of 300Mbits/sec in most cases. Note that the cable download capacity is around 16Mbits/sec max in most places. The draft n routers allow the internal network to work at the high speed, like for audio/video transfer. Present day notebook computers do not to my knowledge (unless they just made them) have draft n built in, but have a slot built in for draft n cards. MSN shopping has an excellent presentation of wireless networking equipment under their computer section. I recently put a wireless network in and found them very helpful. Good luck.
