Depends on how much RAM you have (the chip memory). If you have 256 MB or 512 MB - do not turn off virtual memory (XP) I have Windows XP and I installed 2 GB of RAM and turned off the virtual memory. I have had no problems when I am on the Internet or watching videos or using my TV-Tuner. I don't have Windows Vista so I can't tell you anything about its requirements. But, if I were to do photo or video editing, I would have to turn the virtual memory back on as the editing programs need a lot of memory. Some games might also require a lot of virtual memory. Microsoft automatically sets up virtual memory. Some people say it should be 1.5 times as big as your RAM, others say 2.5 times as big. You can always make it bigger than Microsoft makes it. You can also put it on a different drive. But don't put it on a flash drive, it will wear out the flash drive and make it fail after a few months.
